The future for NU build

Initially, we will produce high quality modular housing for Beechwood in Basildon as part of Swan's £100m regeneration of the former 1960's Craylands Estate which it is delivering in partnership with Basildon Borough Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. We expect to deliver eight homes a month initially with the first homes being assembled on site at Beechwood in Autumn / Winter 2017.

At full capacity the NU build will be able to produce 3,000 homes over the next 10 years.

Customisation

Looking forward, NU build will be working closely with our colleagues at U plan to allow the purchasers of 274 private sale homes in the West Phase of the Beechwood site to customise their home.

With five starter houses to choose from, residents first select their plot and then create their new homes using specialist sales software. Starting with the basics - number of bedrooms, arrangement of the downstairs and upstairs plans and the level of specification; residents can then choose from a palette of external finishes for walls, roofs and windows and even add bays, conservatories or roof extensions. There are over 1,000,000 different options to choose from and buyers will be able to configure their home on the website from the comfort of their sofa, or with the specialist sales team at the Marketing Suite on site.

The framework of choices available has been carefully selected to ensure that each home is unique, but that their variety adds to the interest of the finished streets.

We were delighted to have participated in a new ‘Solving the Housing Crisis’ programme, launched at this year’s 2018 CIH conference in Manchester, which explores the issues around the crisis and looks at the people and communities that are tackling the problem.

The programme, which features key industry interviews and news-style reports along with sponsored editorial profiles, was commissioned by The Chartered Institute of Housing and produced by ITN Productions, ITN’s bespoke production hub.
